The Worst Times to Visit the Black Hills and Badlands
Many guests will want to avoid the area at certain times. For example, the first two weeks of August mark the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. While this might not sound too bad, it’s the largest motorcycle gathering in the country.
What does this mean for you? First off, higher prices. If you’re able to get a hotel room, be prepared to pay up. The pricing is as high as it gets during the rally. Second, South Dakota’s population is around 890,000 as of this writing. Somewhere around 400,000 people pour into Sturgis, Rapid City, Hill City, Custer and much more.
Most of the motorcycles are Harleys, so the entirety of the Black Hills rumble with the roar of tailpipes belching sound and exhaust. The roads are choked, attractions overrun and the only respite is somewhere in the Badlands. Driving can also be dangerous. Our company informs each guest of this gathering, and we only operate in the Badlands due to the issues surrounding the rally. Do yourself a favor. Don’t come during this time!
