My XO Adventures was born out of the Love of Travel. Formed in 2018, My XO Adventures philosophy is that travel has the power to connect cultures, open minds and heal the spirit. Each offering is created with that intent in mind. The world is full of culture and we’re here to explore as much as we can, as long we we can. We feel that in understanding the gift of diversity, we understand ourselves.
Mother nature has provided us with a beautiful world to explore, and it’s our responsibility to protect it from damage. We see this first hand Black Hills of South Dakota. Visiting these places gives us an understand of our impact on the planet and provides some accountability in our lives.
We do not believe politicians make a better world, but you can. My XO Adventures welcomes all people, and embraces the uniqueness of each individual. When we travel together, we leave behind the static and tune in to reality – Nature, it’s people, places, plants and animals as a reminder of why we are here.

Hi! I’m Daniel Milks, the owner of My XO Adventures. I never saw myself traveling as much as I have, but I’m certainly grateful for it. My career began in 2011 as a sales agent, and from there I worked my way up and through a number of directorships.
I absolutely love travel for so many reasons. It’s in my lifeblood and an integral part of my life. My favorite place is the place I haven’t been. Most of my offerings are created from first hand experience in the places I go. If you see it on the website it’s because something personally touched me about the region and I’m certain you’ll love it.
I’m a native from Erie, PA and lived most of my life in Sarasota Florida. Most recently, I’ve moved to the Black Hills of South Dakota and I love it here. I spend my summers in the Black Hills providing the best private tours possible. During the cooler months is when I offer my international destinations.
I realize that you’re looking for an experience more than anything, which is what I offer. I personally escort each tour to make sure everything goes well, but also to get to know you. My XO Adventures has quite a few repeat guests and I give everything I’ve got to make that happen!
Daniel Milks started My XO Adventures in Sarasota, Florida, after working for a large tour operator. He began in travel by answering telephones and working in a sales shark environment, selling tours the operator created. These tours could be thousands of people on a single departure.
Since he had never been outside of the country, except Canada, Daniel needed to gain the experience of a seasoned travel agent, so he asked himself how he could stand apart. Sharks have big teeth, but they are just in for the kill. Once the sale was over, it was time to move on to the next client.
Daniel took the tact of being honest (that is his nature), Letting the guest know if he didn’t have an answer, but following up with the information the guest needed and making himself available to their needs. This practice is how he built his book of business.
Later, Daniel became Director of Marketing, Product Development, and Principal Buyer.
Daniel left the company after realizing he wasn’t enjoying travel any longer due to the working conditions and business practices. The choice was to come home and grumble about the day or do something about it.
The next day, he gave his thirty-day notice and felt an instant relief. The same day, a conversation with his friend and Pastor, Dan Minor of Harvest Sarasota, revealed Harvest was looking for a new administrator, and Daniel Milks was at the top of the list.
They worked the details out, and Daniel Milks found himself in a position he never expected. Working to improve systems, social events, volunteer participation, and more, he went to work right away. Daniel promised the Pastor 3 years, but no more.
After a year and a half into the job, event participation grew exponentially, and efficiencies began to show significant and quantifiable results. At the same time, his former employer and tour company declared bankruptcy.
This also meant his non-compete was no longer valid. The draw to get back into travel was strong, so Daniel opened My XO Adventures in August of 2018. He thought he could create, offer, and conduct tours his experience allowed, but he was wrong. The biggest lesson learned here was that no potential client cared how much experience he had. It was all about trust and relationships.
He changed his model, scrapping the big international trips for local tours, day trips, travel clubs, and even free tours. Once people learned his character, they wanted to go on to bigger things and faraway places.
This moment was when Daniel stepped up the offerings to include Cuba, Ecuador, Germany, Austria, Peru, Costa Rica, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, South Africa, and the United States National Parks. His mantra became, “If I don’t like to explore an area, I won’t sell it. No matter how popular it is.” This mantra continues to this day.
He always gets this question, and we’d thought to answer it here. In March 2020, Daniel was tour managing for a group on one of his offerings to Havana, Cuba. Word came that the President of the United States had declared a national emergency. Daniel gave the group two options only. One was to worry about things out of the guests’ control or use this opportunity to have the time of their lives and later deal with the problems waiting back home, including his own.
The group chose to live it up and have a blast, and they did. Daniel worked behind the scenes to ensure their safety and return to the United States. Many steps were involved, but his dedication gave him the energy and resources to forge ahead to bring them all home.
Meanwhile, his trusted employees and guides ensured his guests were entertained, educated, and delighted for the remaining days in Havana. Still today, this was one of his favorite groups and best travel memories. Guests matter, and so does the tour manager. It was a wonderful time despite a global meltdown.
Upon returning to Sarasota, Daniel had to face the reality that international tourism was shut down for an indefinite amount of time. He realized his dream was on the line and could be lost. He immediately used his vehicles to operate rideshare and other vehicle-based income.
Understandably, guests on future trips were pulling out and asking for refunds. Any income was needed, and no job was beneath him to save his dream. He did what was necessary and honored all commitments to return the money to his guests. During this time in Sarasota, Daniel thought long and hard about the next step and would have to think big. Not just outside the box, but more like outside the warehouse and off the planet.
Dreams are everything, and he wasn’t going to lose his. Through careful thought, counsel, and consideration, Daniel decided to change his life. He ditched his apartment in Sarasota and untethered from as many financial responsibilities as possible. It was the only way to survive. He stripped his 2017 Ford Transit Passenger van of his seats, added his camping gear, photography equipment, computer, clothes, cooking equipment, and travel gear, and hit the road.
Before leaving, he asked his dear friend, Joshua, to create a brand image called “Adventures Across America.” There was a solid sense to swim against the stream and do the opposite of what most thought was prudent. This decision was not political; his mind, body, and soul resonated that this was the way, and for many good reasons. In late April 2020, Daniel set out on a journey with no destination.
The intention was to explore and learn as much as possible while helping local businesses. Setting up appointments with other tour operators daily, he would meet at a location and setting comfortable for them to learn about their business and specialties and see if there was a diamond in the rough that could be useful later for an excellent domestic travel offering.
